The briefcase is made from full-grain vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. Full grain keeps the natural surface of the hide, here a natural pebble grain, so the grain on each briefcase is its own. Tanned with plant tannins, the leather is firm when new; it softens with use and deepens in color into a patina over time. The edges are painted and the topstitching is tonal, in thread that matches the leather.

The single front flap folds over the top of the briefcase from the back and closes with a polished silver-tone push-lock clasp, centered on the flap's lower edge. A single rolled leather top handle sits above the top fold, held by two stitched leather keepers, so the briefcase carries by hand like a document case. Caring for vegetable-tanned leather
- Keep it dry. If it gets wet, blot it and let it dry at room temperature, out of direct sun and off any heater.
- Condition it now and then with a balm made for vegetable-tanned leather.
- Avoid solvents and alcohol-based cleaners, which dry out the leather.
- Polish the silver-tone push-lock with a dry cloth, and store the briefcase with the flap closed so it keeps its shape.
- Water and skin oils darken vegetable-tanned leather; that is how its patina forms.
