GENTCREATE Creator Guidelines

How to film, describe and disclose GENTCREATE's handmade calfskin iPhone cases and leather pieces. For affiliates, gifted creators, UGC creators and brand ambassadors, and for anyone posting about a piece they own.

The short version: show the leather in good light, describe it accurately and disclose every partnership. If something isn't covered here, email affiliate@gentcreate.com before you post.

The look

How to film GENTCREATE pieces

Examples from our own product images and photography.

  • A burgundy crocodile-embossed GENTCREATE wallet in soft window light

    Light

    Window light

Window light or soft daylight. No colored lights or tinting filters, so the leather shows its true color.

  • A red pebble-grain GENTCREATE card holder standing on a slab of slate

    Background

    Plain surfaces

Stone, linen, wood or paper. Let the piece be the subject.

  • Two hands hold a black pebble-grain GENTCREATE card holder steady, a card inside

    Hands

    A steady grip

Clean hands and slow, steady movements. Keep the piece in the frame.

  • A hand holds a red pebble-grain GENTCREATE card holder up to fill the frame

    Timing

    The first two seconds

Show the piece in the first two seconds.

  • Close-up of the cross-hatched grain and stitched edge of a tan saffiano GENTCREATE card holder

    Close-ups

    Hold it a beat longer

The grain, the edges and the gold letters need time. Hold close-ups longer than feels natural.

  • A man looks down as he slides a burgundy lizard-embossed GENTCREATE card holder into his shirt pocket

    Gaze

    Eyes on the piece

When the piece is in the shot with you, look at it, not at the lens.

  • A hand holds an iPhone in a brown crocodile-embossed GENTCREATE case cut for its model

    The iPhone

    The right model

Show a case on the iPhone model it was made for, and name the model correctly.

  • Back of a green crocodile-embossed GENTCREATE iPhone case, its full-width camera window open

    The camera

    The camera edge

Don't crop or cover the edge around the camera. It's part of the design.

Our product film: a slow pass across the grain, then the open wallet

Five shots

Five shots that work

If you film nothing else, film these.

  • The click-in: the case going onto the phone.
  • The grain: a slow close-up across the leather.
  • The initials: gold letters turned to the light.
  • The unboxing: mailer, the GENTCREATE box, lid, gold band, the lift.
  • Into the pocket: the piece going where it lives.

Disclosure

How to disclose a gifted piece, a fee or a commission

In the United States the FTC requires a clear disclosure whenever a brand gives you something: a free piece, a fee or a commission. Other countries have similar rules; follow the ones where you live.

  • Disclose in the post itself, every time, where people see it without clicking: in the caption, and in the video or on the image.
  • In a video, say it out loud as well as writing it.
  • Use the platform's paid-partnership label when there is one.
  • Use plain words: #ad, “Gifted by @gentcreate”, or “I earn a commission if you buy through my link”.
  • On a blog, in a newsletter or on a pin, put the disclosure next to the link and before it, not only in a footer or an about page.
  • If you review a piece on our site or anywhere else, say in the review that you're a GENTCREATE partner or that the piece was a gift.
  • Disclose in the same language as your post.
  • Disclose a gifted piece even if you weren't paid.

Rules

Name, tags and program rules

  • Name

    The name and tags

Write GENTCREATE in capitals. Tag @gentcreate and use #gentcreate. Don't change, recolor or redraw the logo.

  • Program

    Program rules

Disclose every partnership. Share your code only on your own channels, never on coupon or deal sites. Don't bid on GENTCREATE or gentcreate.com in search ads, and don't use GENTCREATE in your handle, page name or ad account.

  • Frame

    Keep out of the frame

Apple logos or Apple packaging as props, cars or watches as status symbols, and sexualized framing.

  • Reposts

    Reposts and usage

We ask before we repost your content, credit you and keep your disclosure. Paid use, such as ads, needs your written agreement first, with its terms and fee. You keep the copyright unless a written agreement says otherwise. Use music you're licensed to use, and make sure anyone else in the shot has agreed to appear.

Questions about the guidelines

Do I have to show my face?

No. Hands and the piece are enough.

How do I disclose a gifted product or a commission?

In the United States the FTC treats a free piece, a fee or a commission as a connection you have to disclose clearly, in the post itself, every time. Use the platform's paid-partnership label and plain words: #ad, “Gifted by @gentcreate” for a gift, or “I earn a commission from @gentcreate” for an affiliate link. Other countries have similar rules; follow the ones where you live.

Do you approve posts before they go live?

No. Your posts are yours. We do read partner posts, and we'll ask you to fix a missing disclosure or an inaccurate fact. If you're unsure about a claim or a word, ask affiliate@gentcreate.com before you post. Paid UGC briefs are different: notes on a first cut are part of the brief.

Can I use GENTCREATE's photos?

Ask first. Partners can request product photos from affiliate@gentcreate.com.

Can I mention the price?

Yes. Use the price on the product page on the day you post, and say that initials cost extra. Prices can change, so don't quote one from memory.

Do these guidelines apply if I'm not a partner?

They're written for partners, but anyone posting about a piece they own is welcome to use them.
