The zipped shoe compartment, and why it sits in the end of the bag
One end of this duffel is not part of the main compartment at all. It is a separate space, lined in fabric, closed by its own curved metal zip set into the end cap, and it is photographed with a pair of shoes in it. They go in and come out from the outside, so they never travel through the space your clothes are in. The stitching is a contrast topstitch along every panel seam, strap and pocket edge, with X-stitch reinforcement on the two tabs that carry the strap D-rings. The metalwork is an antique brass finish throughout, down to the studs set into the base so the bag stands off the ground.

Caring for this distressed leather
This leather is not waterproof, not water-resistant and not waxed. Keep it out of sustained rain, and dry it properly when it does get wet.
Wipe it with a dry cloth or a barely damp one, and let mud dry before you brush it off. Keep alcohol wipes, hand sanitizer and household cleaners off it: they strip finish and leave a pale patch that will not buff back. Keep it off radiators and out of long sun, and if it gets soaked, blot it, stuff it loosely so it holds its shape, and dry it at room temperature away from heat. Condition it sparingly with a neutral leather conditioner when the surface starts to look dry, worked across a whole panel rather than dabbed at one spot, because this leather darkens where it takes oil: an even coat reads as depth, a patch reads as a stain.
