What a pebble grain is, and why it wears better than a flat panel
A pebble grain is a field of small, irregular, rounded bumps pressed into the leather, closer together than a crocodile block and softer-edged than a lizard scale. On this case it is pressed into calfskin under heat and pressure, so the relief comes from the fibers of the hide being reshaped rather than from anything sitting on top of them.
That raised field does something a flat panel cannot. Our other leather cases split the back into two panels: a patterned upper section and a plain lower one. This one does not. The pebble grain runs the full height of the case as a single piece, and the only thing interrupting it is the GENTCREATE name in small gold letters along the bottom edge, below where your fingers rest.
That is a design decision rather than a cost saving, and it is the reason to pick this case over the others in the range. A two-tone case announces itself from across a room. A single pebbled panel reads as a leather case and nothing more, which is what you want if the phone is going onto a meeting table rather than into a photograph. The rubber bumper around the edge is left dark and unmarked for the same reason.
What 6 m of drop protection actually means
Most leather phone cases are a sleeve: hide wrapped around something soft, with no structural claim attached at all. This one is built the other way around, with the leather as the finish and the shell as the engineering.
Underneath the calfskin is a polycarbonate frame that resists flexing, wrapped in TPU that deforms and springs back. Polycarbonate is stiff, TPU is elastic, and the pairing is what works: the frame stops the phone twisting, the TPU turns a sharp impact into a slower one. This is not a MagSafe case. There is no ring of magnets inside it, so a MagSafe wallet, a magnetic mount or a magnetic charger will not attach. The phone still charges on a MagSafe pad, because a MagSafe pad is a Qi pad with magnets added, but it will rest where you place it instead of being pulled into position.
It does not muffle the speakers, which is the answer you want: the speaker and microphone openings are clear and calls sound as they do without a case.

Caring for a satin pebbled calfskin case
It does not resist scratches. A pebble grain hides small marks better than any smooth finish we make, because the field of high points breaks up a line before your eye can follow it, but hiding a mark is not the same as resisting one. Keeping the case out of the pocket that holds your keys removes most of the risk that exists.
Day to day, a dry cloth is enough. Wipe across the grain rather than along it, so the cloth lifts dust out of the low points instead of pushing it further in. The satin finish and the water-resistant treatment handle the rest, and this is a surface that genuinely does not need conditioning.
For more than dust, use a barely damp cloth and let the case dry away from direct heat. Avoid alcohol wipes, solvent cleaners and leather conditioner: the first two strip the treatment and the third has nothing to soak into on a treated panel.
