How the lizard grain is pressed into the leather
A pattern can arrive on a phone case three ways: printed onto the surface as ink, laminated on as a film, or pressed into the leather itself. Only the third one survives a year in a pocket, because the first two sit on top of the hide and every edge they have is an edge that can lift.
Ours is pressed. A calfskin panel goes under an engraved plate, heat and pressure drive the lizard scale into the grain, and the leather keeps that relief because the fibers themselves have been reshaped. Run a thumb across the upper panel and the scales catch slightly, in rows that narrow toward the top of the case the way they narrow on the animal. Then the panel is sealed to a gloss, which is what gives the pattern its depth: light falls into the low points between scales and reflects off the high ones, and that contrast is the whole effect.
The lower panel is left plain on purpose. It is where your fingers actually sit when you hold the phone one-handed, it is where the gold stamp reads cleanly, and the change in texture is what stops the case looking like a novelty. Is this real lizard skin? No.
People search for lizard skin phone cases. This is calfskin leather with a lizard grain embossed into it. No lizard was involved. There is no CITES paperwork with it because none is needed, and any seller who leaves that ambiguous at this price is leaving it ambiguous for a reason.
Real lizard hide comes in small pieces, which means visible seams on anything the size of a phone, wide variation between panels, and a price several times this one. A pressed calf panel gives you one continuous piece across the back, a consistent scale run, and a leather that takes the sealing evenly. What you give up is the irregularity a collector pays for. If that irregularity is the point for you, this is not your case.
What 6 m of drop protection actually means
Most leather phone cases are a sleeve. They are a piece of hide wrapped around a soft shell with no structural claim attached, which is fine right up until the one moment it matters. This one is built the other way around: the leather is the finish and the shell is the engineering.
Under the calfskin sits a polycarbonate frame that resists flexing, wrapped in TPU that deforms and returns. Polycarbonate is stiff and TPU is elastic, and it is the pairing that works: the frame keeps the phone from twisting, the TPU turns a sharp impact into a slower one. The rated figure is 6 m, which converts to 19.7 ft. For scale: a jacket pocket sits at 1 m (3.3 ft) on most adults, and a hand at ear height at 1.5 m (4.9 ft). The rating is not a promise about every fall onto every surface, because a corner strike onto concrete is a different event from a flat drop onto boards, but it does tell you which category of product you are holding.
Two details that matter more often than the rating does. The camera edge is raised, so setting the phone face-up rests the lip on the table rather than the lens. And the side buttons are rubber rather than leather-covered plastic, so they keep a defined click instead of going soft under a layer of hide.
Wireless charging, NFC, and the one thing this case does not do
Qi wireless charging passes through the back of the case. So does NFC, which means tap-to-pay and transit gates work with the case on. Neither needs the phone taken out, and there is no cutout in the leather to make either work.
This is not a MagSafe case. There is no ring of magnets inside it, so a MagSafe wallet, a magnetic car mount or a magnetic charger will not snap on and stay. Your phone will still charge on a MagSafe pad, because a MagSafe pad is also a Qi pad, but it will sit where you put it rather than being pulled into alignment.
What the case does block is nothing you use. It does not muffle the speakers: the speaker and microphone cutouts are open and calls sound the way they do without a case.
Batches of 69, and why yours will not match the photograph exactly
These are produced in runs of 69 pieces. Within a run, the leather comes off hides that took the dye slightly differently and sat under the press with slightly different moisture in them, so expect up to 4% difference in tone and in how tightly the scale pattern reads.
Four percent is small. It is the difference between two panels you would only notice side by side, not the difference between two products. But it is real, and it is the reason a case photographed under studio light and a case in your hand at a window will not be identical twins. A molded plastic case has no such figure because every unit is the same unit. This one is leather, and leather remembers where it came from.
Is this the right iPhone case for you
Choose this if: you want a leather case that reads as leather from across a table rather than up close; you like a texture with actual relief instead of a flat pebbled sheet; you charge on a pad and pay by tap and want both to keep working; you set your phone down on hard surfaces often enough that a raised camera lip and a real shell matter; and you want your initials on it.
Consider something else if: you use a MagSafe wallet, mount or charger, because none of them will hold here. If you want the thinnest possible profile, this is a two-layer construction and there are slimmer cases in the world. If you want a surface that shrugs off keys, it has no scratch protection. And if you are set on a genuine exotic hide, buy a genuine exotic hide.

Caring for a sealed, lizard-embossed calfskin case
This case does not resist scratches. A sealed gloss is a surface with depth, and depth is what a key or a coin can interrupt. Keep it out of the pocket that holds your keys and you have removed most of the risk there is.
Day to day it needs almost nothing. Wipe it with a dry cloth, along the direction of the scales rather than across them, and the oleophobic coating handles the rest. Fingerprints do not build up on this finish the way they do on bare gloss, which is the point of the coating.
For anything more than dust, use a barely damp cloth and let it dry away from heat. Do not use alcohol wipes, solvent cleaners or leather conditioner: the first two attack the sealant and the third has nothing to soak into, because a sealed panel does not drink. Marks that do appear tend to be in the sealant rather than the hide, and a light one will often close up under a warm thumb. A deep one will not, and no case at any price will tell you otherwise.
